C1 question that probably won't get an answer

The weatherstripping on the early corvettes had a diamond S molded into the edge about every 36" or so. Who was the manufacturer and what years did this unique w/s come as oem? Did all C1's have this unique w/s? I know the '56 and '57 did, but how about before and after those years. If you guys out there with original w/s would be willing to take a look I would appreciate it. I don't have judging manuals for the other years, maybe it is indicated in there. Thanks.

53, 54, and 55's had the S/diamond too. Somebody repro's it...not the WS, just the S/diamond. Supposedly, you cut your WS and glue it in/on. Chuck

Thanks Chuck. Anyone know if the diamond S was used up to '62? Maybe even later?

I have an unrestored 1958 & it has the s with the diamond. I think mine has it on the trunck mat as well. My car is in the shop getting all spiffy for a chapter meet. Otherwise I would go out & check it for you. Send me an email & tell me what you need if it's a 58.
          Cheers,
          Deb

61-62 does not have it, and we have no instances that did in any files. I've owned about 35 of those over the years--and have looked at a lot of them carefully.

I believe that the diamond S went away some time early in 59. I do not believe that any 6o models had it.

                  De,
Thanks for the offer. I am sure when you have it judged they will be looking for the diamond S's. When you do get your car back and can take a look, let me know what you find. BTW-I think you may be thinking of the "diamond G" that is stamped into your sparetire cover on the center metal portion where the bolt goes through to tighten down the cover. Good luck with your judging adventure and let us know how it goes.

Mike, you were one of the 61-62 experts that I was hoping to hear from on this. Thanks!

John, can you tell me more. What do you remember about the information on the early '59 discontinuation? Was that early '59 model year or early 1959? Thanks.

Re: C1 question that probably won't get an answer

                        Garry,
If memory serves me right, the change to no Diamond S happened the same time that the window post end became integrated into the weatherstrip. After this time, the post end was a part of the main weatherstrip with a metal tab that was captured under the top rivet in the window run. I am not sure that any 59 cars were ever made with the Diamond S, but I do know that 58 cars were.
My July 59, and my Jan 60 car both had the original weatherstrip, and neither one had the logo.

                        Regards, John McGraw

Garry, I have '58 #9128 and it appears to have it. Actually it looks a little more like a square with an "S" in it. The top/bottom of the "S" is oriented toward a flat side verses the points. I knew I kept all of the old weatherstrip for some reason. It looks like we can be confident it carried at least through the '58 model year. Ted

Ted, thanks for nailing down the '58 for me. Anyone out there able to help with the '59 and possibly '60? Thanks.
