'66 L79 VALVE COVER CASTING FLAW

    '66 L79 VALVE COVER CASTING FLAW

    I see in the JM reference to the casting flaw appearing on L79 valve covers around VIN# 17000. I just purchased a '66 L79 car with engine pad stamp of 6124597. Although the entire engine compartment appears original, the valve covers do not have the flaw. Before I bother to change them for a pair with the flaw(I have a pair), I thought I'd see if there are any other opinions.

      My April-built 66 L79, VIN 196xx, DOES NOT have the casting flaw. I have no doubt that it is original.

              Same with our late April 66 350 horse car. The original covers are too poor to re-use, but no casting flaw.

                      My early 67 (engine assembled sep.15 '66) has one cover with the flaw and one without...got hit for that at chapter judging. I'm not sure what the breakpoint was but I won't be searching for a new valve cover.

                          Rob, My June build "66" is original #124341 and has the casting flaw in both.
