    C1 "birdcage"

The bottom of the right side brace assembly is totally gone on my 60. Need some wisdom/insight:
Any idea where I can get a replacement?
How hard will this be to remove and replace?
    Any special tricks or pitfalls?
    Thanks in advance
    Rod

Rod: I just finnished redoing mine with anew hood surround. I beleive I have a spare right side if you are intersted email me. Tom The drawing of the frame pieces and assembly is in the service manual and is very easy to follow.

never worked on a c1 but the pics provided look like a fairly easy spot to get at. the advice of viewing an assembly manual is excellent , now you need to make or purchase that right side and find a rust free left and your off and running , now just find a shop that can install and weld , i believe you should after getting the pieces / rust free pieces , drill out the spot welds and remove the cancerous portions and tack in the new . hope this helps . you do need a fair amount of prior knowledge and tools to professionally complete the job, if not equipt with this you will devalue your car and have spent a lot of time as well and probably want to sell the vehicle because of the repair . spend some time and get it done right .if it can be seen easy it will be looked at in the future.

Thanks for the responses. Doing it myself is not the problem, just wanted to verify that it was not more complicated than it looked. Didn't know if there were any "hidden" pieces sandwiched between fiberglass panels. The service manual helped big time - Thanks Tom! I will also have to replace the support inside the rocker panel. Got the outside supports from the good doctor yesterday, so I'm ready to go

As far as the birds are concerned, try a turducken - it's a turkey stuffed with a dick that's stuffed with a chicken mmmmm good!

                Hi Rod
I have a 62 corvette that had the same problem on both sides. I carefully was able the take the birdcages out of my car and repair them.I used some new metal and welded it on.Came out great..It took awhile to remove them, but I got them out.

                Good luck...John
