I am hoping there is a judge or two out there or participants of the judging process that can tell me what is done to the bare steel components to keep them from corroding and still not hurt in the judging . Or is that even possible ?

Re: C2 RESTO QUESTION
Howard,
I don't know what climate you're in, but I soaked things like front and rear stabilizer bars with WD40. It changed the unoriginal sandblasted finished to that resembling bare steel and has protected them from corrosion, but then again, I'm in sunny, southern(non-humid) California. Krylon satin clear worked for me on other parts, like the steering gear box. Although I didn't have the car judged, I think it was a good compromise of original looking finish and protection. Hope that helps some...I'm sure you'll get other suggestions as well. If you want to see what some of parts looked like, email me and I'll give you the ebay item# of my car that I recently sold. There are some close-up pictures of various items I restored that way.- Top

Re: C2 RESTO QUESTION
Eastwood sells brownish waxy stuff in a spray can. German car manufacturers spray similar stuff on the bare metal parts of their engines to keep them looking nice. The stuff dries pretty clear, and is self healing. This might be a little more substantial than WD-40, but is still not permanent.- Top

Re: C2 RESTO QUESTION
Pre-Lube6 has been a mainstay for years for protecting "natural" parts, but needs occasional renewal to maintain protection. There's a newer product on the market now called "CorrosionX" that does the same thing, but lasts much longer between applications ( http://www.corrosionx.com ).

Re: C2 RESTO QUESTION
Per John's recommendation I purchased some CorrosionX. I also purchase their products for fishing reels and guns.
While I still prefer PreLube 6 for exhaust manifolds, the CorrosionX really lasts for a LONG time. I have tried it on my daily driver truck, and the spot it's protecting still looks great 9 months later.
