    Car Covers...

Looking for recomendations for a car cover for my 82. Mid America, Corvette Central, and others have a load, all different prices, all different claims. Which one do I get???

Usage: I want to get rid of the sheets I use now for winter storage in a heated garage, and also for overnight at shows. There will never be any outside storage!!! Mostly for dust, and shows.

Has anyone any specific recomendations, or at least what to look for, or maybe more importantly, what to avoid.

    Thanks for the help!

I purchase a cover from Back East Car Covers & Motoring Accessories Inc. 724-863-7100. Flannel inside - nicer than the sheets that I sleep on. I also purchased a couple "close outs" from Covercraft for less than $10 for other cars I have. Obviously a big difference but I'm not sure it matters.

I'd second the recommendation of covers from Back East. I have two and they've been great for just what you want them for: protection from dust in an indoor environment. One word of caution, I'd repeat that the Back East representative himself offered when I bought the covers at Carlisle years ago: while the flannel lined surface is nice and soft as you noted, it is also prone to picking-up and holding particles of dirt, etc. Cleanliness is therefore an essential when using the flannel lined cover, in order not to scratch the paint during installation and removal.

Any comments/suggestions for keeping the car cover clean? Like washing it in a regular home wash machine, detergent to use, frequency of washing, drying, etc. etc. The cheap car cover I referred to is on my '65 Mustang K code.

          Don -

I've had a number of California Car Cover "Plushweave" flannel-lined cotton covers over the years, and don't even THINK about trying to wash one in a home washing machine; take it to a laundromat with the BIG machines, and hang it up and air-dry it when it's done (don't put it in a dryer). They tell you this in the instructions (which nobody reads), and they know of what they speak

john's right (as usual) about not using a dryer...mine still 'sort of' fits (not as low on the sides as it used to be. I was able to wash satisfactorily in a household washer, however.

              Car Covers...

Thank you all for your input!!! A new cover is in the mail now, and I will not miss those old sheets that are ugly-fying my car right now. After talking with the people at Back East, and a few others, I decided to go with a multi layer from MidAmerica. It was $89 vs $129.

              Regards,

                Richard,
I have two flannel car covers from California Car Cover Company and they are great but they do get dirty. They told me to wash at a laundrmat in a commercial washer with woolite and hang to dry.

A laundrmat is the only way to go !!! I did mine in my home machine only to find that the agitator had rubbed off a good chunk of the linning .This due to the fact that it was packed so tightly that it stayed in the same place during the entire wash !!
