    56-62 replacement gas tank fit

Who has had experience with replacement gas tanks? The 62 fuelie I recently bought was stored in 1976 with about 10 gallons in it, and is very scaly inside. I got one from Central that absolutely will not allow the fiberglass cover to fit all the way down--the tank is slightly too big. I slid the original back in, and it goes right back in and fits. I called Central, and they said they've never had a complaint--and then I talked with two restorers in the area, both of whom have called Central and complained in the past.
    Any other experience with Cental's?
How about Quanta's--does theirs fit correctly, or is it by the same Canadian manufacturer, with just the addition of the OL Anderson logo?
    Thanks for your input!

    Mike,

There is only one manufactuer of gas tanks and that's the Canadian factory. They stamp the logo for Quanta and then sell the tanks to others without the logo (CC).

I have used one of the tanks in my 58 with no problem and have sold several with no complaints.

They are not packaged very UPS friendly and the edges can be distorted by the gentle way they are handled on the big brown trucks.

My only suggestion would be to make sure the corners or tanks have not been distorted. Sorry I can't be of more help.

    Regards,

    JR

Mike-If you still have the original tank you might consider getting that re-done. My 54 tank was in similar shape and a local shop sent it off to Quebec. Came back great for about $270. Send me a PM and I will give you more details if you like.

Mike I just put a Quanta tank in my 62. The rear corner of the cover on the driver's side is held up 1/4 inch by the new tank. The cover fits the original tank fine. I can not see any obvious damage or distortion to the new tank. Hope this helps

I had the same problem with my 62 and a Quantra tank two years ago. Called them, posted on this website and still do not have an answer that corrected the problem. If you do find a solution, please post.
