    unrestored 58 need advise

    Hi Everyone,
My little Blu 58 is really coming out great. I was able to get all the correct plugs & wires, cap,Rotor. A better original non vented Standt gas cap & trico wipers/ with dots. I need help finding out where the proper decal placement for my 283 245/2x4s valve covers belong, can someone tell me where to look or post a picture. I had to put the proper water pump & change the master cylinder to the small 022 type to make her 100%. So if anyone needs a large 022 MC, email me. I should have my car back next week. I had put in a new aluminum radiator/Elderbrock water pump & bought a mount that had the cut out in October when I got the car & wasn't a member of NCRS yet. I wanted to be sure she ran cooler here in Arizona. After reading the JRM, I realized that I couldn't paint & put the remade Harrison tag on. It would be counterfit, I could have been disqulified. So anyone new to NCRS, get the manuals or ask the guys on this board. The guys in my neighborhood should have told me, they just said to me, oh , it looks exactly like mine, all you have to do is paint it. BS, the original had a brass honeycomb core. It wasn't nice & it's not like you are going to beat anyone, it's the car that is judged, trust nobody, get the books.I would like to know if there should be a felt washer on the dipstick for my powerglide ? Also I have aquired a few dip sticks, my original has a small M on it, does anyone know what it stands for ? The others I have all Have a G, I think that means the General. I would like to know just to educate myself. I'm sure I am forgetting something & I'll ask later. Before I go, let me tell you an Ebay buyer beware story. I purchased a set of door knobs & a shifter knob, as most people on this board know I have all my original parts in the closet for safe keeping. Roy told me to be carful, as there arn't many unrestored 58s. Anyway, under the name desertapache/ or bob2582sue@aol.com Classic Automotive enterprises in Somerton AZ. The Door knobs they sent were smaller & didn't fit, the shifter knob had a visable seam around the center where it was glued together, he refused a refund & I am trying to work it out through Ebay, it's principal, false advetising & he was nasty on the phone. Also on Ebay is a guy, Mr.parts88, he has a photo of a bag of GM wing nuts, like the one that fellow paid 80 dollars for. I paid 20.00 for 6 or 8, but they didn't come in a GM bag. He just uses that for effect & the unsuspecting buyer like myself thought I was getting a sealed GM bag of wing nuts. WRONG, I got a plain baggie & I could have bought these wing nuts at NAPA or Ace. I called & he was nasty, guilt does that to people. So I just thought I would pass it along. Well I hope you are all coming to the National in July, I'm almost ready for Utah & I can't wait.
    Cheers & thanks,
    Deb

I told you half of the e-bay sellers don't know what part is correct or original. Call me first.

M= stands for MOMMY or just the suppliers logo when they make parts for GM

        Re: unrestored 58 need advise

        Deb,
You can put the harrison tag on the new radiator without worry about being disqualified. That being said, Your radiator may or may not judge well depending on whose radiator it is. If it is one of Tom Dewitts restoration radiators, you can expect to get no points deducted at all. His cellular C1 cores are dead nuts copies of the original, and he uses original tanks to build these radiators. I used his core on my 60 and it never even got a sideways look from any judge. Read your manual better, there is an example of what is restoration and what is counterfeiting in it. This falls clearly in the restoration definition. Putting a Big block engine in a car that was originally equiped with a smallblock, would be an example of counterfeiting.

        Regards, John McGraw

The original C1 cellular cores can be ordered from any Radiator shop and installed in your original .
