    C-3 TACH REMOVAL

Hi anyone out there able to answer this question.
I've got a 75 vette and the tach is slow, it idles fine but doesn't keep up when you rev up the motor. What can I do?
Also has anyone done a removal? Are there any special ways to take it out?

    Thanks. Ken

I am not familiar with 75 corvette, but look at the steering column closely. More than likely you will have to lower it to keep from cracking the dash pad. Terry

      Ken-----

1975 was the first year Corvette to use an electronic tachometer----all previous Corvettes used a mechanical tachometer "of sorts".

Anyway, your problem is with one of 2 components. Either the tachometer instrument, itself, or the tachometer "filter". The tachometer "filter" is attached to the intake manifold just forward of the distributor with a single small bolt and clamp. It looks like a capacitor with attached wires. It connects via wires at the driver's side of the distributor. Check this first for broken wires or loose connections. Unfortunately, this part is discontinued and not reproduced. Hopefully, yours will be ok or, at least, repairable.

If the tach filter is ok (usually, it is as long as all the wires appear ok), then you'll need to remove the tachometer instrument. This involves pulling the left side dash panel forward. Follow the procedure outlined in your Chevrolet Service Manual. DO NOT attempt any repairs on your car unless you have this factory service manual, read it, and follow the procedures.

After removal of the tachometer from the instrument panel, you'll need to send it in to a qualified instrument repair shop for repair.

Ken if you need a new tach filter or the electronic piece in you tach, these parts are available from Mid America Motorworks www.mamotorworks.com.
