    54 Speedometer Restoration

I'm in the process of replacing the bezels and lens on my '54. I would like to replace the odometer (the numbers are cracked and parts of them are falling off). And while I'm at it, I would like to refinish the black backing plates behind the mph and the speedometer needle.

    My questions:
    1. Are any of the replacement odometers available better (more correct)than others?
    2. Is the black paint/coating flat or stain?
    3. Is there someway to whiten the reflective tip on speedometer needle?
    4. The blinker filter lens I have for the turn indicators are shinny on one side and dull on the other. Which side faces the driver? The old ones look dull on both sides.

Any recommendations and/or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Roy! I went to there website but I couldn't find any odometer number wheels or a specific paint to refinish the back-plates. They do offer rebuild service but my speedometer works find I just want to do some comestic.

My speedo is back together looking like new! Thanks for your responses and suggestions. To update everyone, I found a local speedo repair shop and found a good used odometer ($25)! I repainted the backing plates with Krylon 1613 Semi Flat Black and installed the new lens and bezel.

One further note: this was not a real difficult job. And, since the speedo worked find there was no real reason to use a "professional" restorer's service.
