    C2 Conv Decklid Stricker Plate

I'm painting a 66 conv.. The rear declid stricker plates have gouches in them from the latches.
The originals are shiny like polished SS but the pair I recieved from Corvette Central are natural finish stainless.
Is this how the aftermarket stricker plates are being privided?

      Strike Plates

The originals are probably Zinc Die Cast thats why they get gouged there soft. Did they advertise the replacements as stainless? The stainless can be polished to a very bright finish. Anyone out there know if originals were Die Cast.

          Geoffrey------

That "black residue" from the aluminum polish used to be found in generous amounts on the 1970 Corvette small block aluminum valve covers, GM #3966541 and 3966542. These were the PRODUCTION 1970 L-46/LT-1, 1971-72 LT-1 right side and 1973-77 L-82 valve covers and have the "medium polish". These valve covers were also SERVICE for 1969 L-46 which originally used covers GM #3932415 and 3932416. These covers were unpolished out-of-the-box and had no drippers.

The later SERVICE-only covers for 69-77 HP/SHP applications, GM #474207 and 474208, were high polish aluminum. I don't think that I've ever seen the "black residue" on these, but some may have had it.

Thanks guys. I suppose polishing is the best route. Now I've got to figure out how to set the rivets. Not much space in there!
