Does anyone know the aftermarket part number/manufacturer for a replacement air cleaner element, something like a Fram or a Purlator...I am looking for something for a driver vs an original part.

"Snooz"----
The GM part number for this part is GM #6484339. The AC-Delco number is A-165C. As far as I know, it is still available. Or, you can easily have your local auto parts store cross-reference these numbers to other manufacturers. It may be, though, that the others no longer manufacture this filter. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 63-65 365 hp air cleaner element
My '93 AC catalog lists an A353A for '63-'65 w/o FI. The '94 Fram Master catalog lists a CA 176. These are throw away paper elements. As you probably know the original filter was a washable foam element and metal screen. My experience is that these catalogs are full or errors, so check for the lastest info with a good parts house, and be prepared to possibly get the wrong part.

Yes, the AC-163C, GM #6418400, is the 63-65 with FI element. The AC-165C, GM #6484339, is the 63-65 except FI element. It may be that the AC-165C element has been discontinued and/or superceded. I'll check on it when I get home.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I have confirmed that the GM #6484339 air filter element(A163C) for 63-65 Corvettes without FI is still available. At least it was as of 11-1-99. It MAY not be available through the Delco parts system, but it is available through the GM parts system. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

I believe that the A165C is an original foam type, but I'm not certain. I can tell you that it was available under this AC number and the GM number that I previously provided as far back as 1969. I don't believe that GM was offerring a paper type replacement that long ago. But, I suppose they could have been.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: A353C...
When I bought a new filter from Chevrolet in 1968 to replace my deteriorated original foam element, it was paper. I don't remember the part number, but 165 would be very old. I wonder if Chevrolet ever serviced the original polyurethane element? I guess someone will have to order one and find out, but I'd bet the cost of the part that it is paper?
