RE-STAKING CARB ACCEL ROD LEVER TO SHAFT

Does anyone have a recommendation for what type of tool is best to resecure the accelerator rod lever to the shaft. It's just slightly loose, as all the originals seem to become.

If you mean the flat stamped lever attachment at the bottom to the shaft from the accelerator pedal in the tunnel, it's not staked; there's a 1/4"-20 pinch bolt that clamps the split bottom of the lever to the shaft - both have a flat as well for correct orientation.

      John,

Sorry if wasn't clear, its the lever that's attached to the carb itself that the accelerator rod slips into, that opens the primary throttle plates. It's just slightly loose and looks like it is "peened" onto the shaft at the factory.

Personally, I don't know of any way to "re-peen" or "re-stake" this joint in such a way that it would be durable. I think that the only way to repair it would be to remove the part from the carb and tack weld it or spot weld it.

Go to a hobby shop and buy some super thin super glue. Make sure the area is extremely free of grease and oil (wash it with laqure thinner and blow dry with compressed air). Apply the glue and clamp it. Let it sit over night. It has worked occassionally for me in similar situations. Terry
