    C-2 5 Speed Transmission Conversion

I've decided to turn my non-original 65 Roadster into a good driver. I've heard about having the original 4 Speed converted into a 5 speed with an overdrive gear. Does anyone know the best way to do this? Can I get an exchange or someting?

    Doug -

No such thing (yet) as converting a Muncie to an overdrive, although the outfit working on it claims they'll be ready "in a few months". Lots of C2 guys are doing the Keisler 5-speed overdrive Tremec/TKO conversion, though - about $3K for the complete kit.

John, Are you referring to the "Gear Vendors" conversion? I spoke to them a while ago and I got the impresion that they were ready to go on that. That is the way I would go. I like my Muncie.

        Frank -

No, the Gear Vendors overdrive is a separate LARGE bolt-on unit that replaces the existing tailhousing, that's been around for many years. The "Muncie overdrive" is being developed within the architecture of the Muncie case; don't recall who's doing it, but it might be AutoGear in Syracuse, New York.

John do you not recomend this unit, gear vendors? I read a report from someone who had it installed in a c1 and was very happy.

I had a gear venders overdrive on a Chevy truck with a T400 and all it did was blow up transmissions, I heard they went out of biz a couple of times

Finally found my notes, Gary Howard of Gary's Gearbox (garysgearbox@fuse.net) put out the following info: "all new Muncie 4 spd overdrive transmission, which has .85 4th gear ratio". "Helps those with 4:56 or 4:11 rear gears which results in approx 3:55 final drive". I do not have any experience with this business or person, good luck.
