1966 side windows out of tracks

Hello, experts, and thank you for the excellent advice so far. I am amazed at the breadth and depth of expertise within this forum! My 1966 convertible, 'babyblue', has a problem with the side windows. When the soft top is up, and the windows fully closed, upon rolling them down, they stick and come out of their tracks. Is there some way to attach them more firmly to their tracks so they stay in them when I roll the windows down?

you need to remove the glass and its channel and reline the channel. its a common problem with c-2's wherein the channel liner deteriorates(shrinks) with time allowing less tight fit of glass in channel. be careful as the door glass can end up on the blacktop/concrete and then it'll be a more costly fix. mike

      Hi Rich -

I'm in the midst of re-doing my '63 windows now. I ordered the channel sash (grip strip) from one of the usual Vette suppliers. But what I got was wimpy enough (thin) that I could easily pull the window out of the channel when I was done.

I thought about squirting some sort of adhesive/sealer in there to hold it. For the sake of the next restorer of your car, please do not do that - a total PITA to get the glass out later.

The answer was to go to the local auto glass place. They GAVE me 8' of 1.5" x 1/16" thick rubber channel sash. And the result was a window with a perfect tight fit that will come apart again when it becomes necessary.

      Good Luck! Pete
