I am a fan of the Zymol detailing products. In a recent catalog, I noticed they offer custom colored black and red waxes. What are the opinions regarding the use of colored waxes. Are they marketing gimicks, or is there any real merit. They claim to contain actual pigment dyes used in paints. My black 59 has a base/clear coat paint finish. I also own another red sports car. So the concept intrigued me. Thanks. - Kevin

Re: Colored waxes
I tried Dupli-Color Red made by Blue Coral. It works but not as well as advertised as in "AS SEEN ON TV". I recommend wearing disposable gloves if you try one the pigmented waxes unless you enjoy looking like an axe murderer. I still use it to try and cover very small flaws in the clear coat but have gone back to Meguiar's for my cleaner and finish products.- Top

Re: Colored waxes
Here's an "old Indian trick" if you have a red car. Get a paint sample and go to the local drug store and check out lipstick shades. Find a red that matches. Use it to "touch up" or "semi-hide" flaws in red paint. It works great for car shows.
The colored waxes were around in the 50's. Nothing new under the sun here. Chuck1963 Corvette Conv. 327/360 NCRS Top Flight

Re: Colored waxes
I have some turtle wax color magic for black and dark grey cars. It works pretty good on minor paint flaws.Of course it doesn't work as good as seen on tv.But if you do the car just before going to a show it looks decent and lasts a few weeks.I have never tried the red but turtle makes that also.

Re: Colored waxes
Thanks for everyone's input. When you talk about minor paint flaws, are you refering to filling in or covering up some small stone chips etc.? I have never seen a demonstration or commercial on TV, so I don't know about those claims. Since I don't have many minor paint flaws I am concerned with, I was mostly interested in something that might provide the deepest shine. Regards, - Kevin- Top

Kevin
The wax with the color fills in minor scratches and stone chips. I don't think that it leaves a real deep shine though. What I have done is put that on where I had some mior flaws then I do the whole car with a good wax, wax right over the coloered wax. It works pretty good.
