I have what i thought was an original water pump fitting on my car.I'm refering to the fitting that threads into the water pump and the heater hose is attached.A friend of mine took his off a very original 1965.His notches are cut in sets of two's(top and bottom) into the fitting.Mine, which is from a very original 1967 has the same notches but there is only one set of notches cut(top or bottom) into the peaks. Were there two styles ? Is one original and the other a service part? The 1967 and 1965 manuals do not address this. I've had no luck in the archives either. Any help would be very much appreciated. Lou

Re: C2 WATER PUMP FITTING

Both 1965 and 1967 Corvettes without A/C and without K-19 used water pump heater hose fittting of GM #3736495. This is a "long hex" fitting. It was used on MILLIONS of other Chevrolet passenger cars over the years, too. I feel very confident that this piece was manufactured for GM by a number of suppliers and I expect that the differences that you have noted relate to the manufacturer's ID marking and/or manufacturing tooling differences between manufacturers.
It may be that a certain manufacturer predominated in 1965 and another in 1967. Or, it may be that the pieces were supplied and installed randomly over the years of its use.
The GM #3736495 was available in SERVICE until June, 1971 when it was replaced by GM #3849848. I believe that the latter is the "short hex" style fitting as used for 1965-72 with A/C and/or K-19/A.I.R.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
