I have been looking into swapping my current M21 for a modern 5 speed, and was looking to see if anyone had any pointers or suggestions. I have found a Tremec 5 spd kit made specially for C2's by Keisler Automotive and then there is the Richmond 4+1 5 spd (which is much cheaper). I know the mount bracket will need to be rewrked, but will I still be able to use my stock exhaust hanger with the new mount? Also, I have read that the Richmond 5 spd (as well as their 6 spd) shifts very hard, is this true? Any information would be appreciated.

Re: 5 speed swap for 66
Hi Dan,
I haven't done one of these but a good friend has a Tremec in his '76 and loves it. There are several other guys I know of that have the Tremec also. All came from Keisler. I've been thinking Tremec for my '59 also to make it more highway friendly. I'll probably hear some comments on why I'm worried about rpm on a car that's been apart since 1971. I'm seriosly shooting for the 50th anniversary of the '59 though.
I also have a good friend in CA with a Richmond 6 speed and he is extremely satisfied.

Re: 5 speed swap for 66
Hey Tom, what year corvette does your friend have a Richmond 6 speed in? I was looking at the dimensions of it in my PAW catalog and it looks like the shifter and the trans mount might be too far back to work without modifications (trans mount is 18" back, as opposed to 14" for a muncie), but maybe its not enough of a difference to worry about? Thanks, Dan- Top
