    1972 Corvette Master Cylinder

I am trying to find an original master cylinder for my 72. All resto books I read say the cast # should be 5480346. I keep coming across people selling masters with the cast # 5460346 saying it is for a vette. ex:Crane Corvettes. What is the correct cast # ? If 548 is correct what is the 546 for ?

    Doug-----

This exact subject has come up many times before. Casting numbers can be very diffcult to differentiate. Problem numerals include "3", "6", "8", and "9". It seems to me that I carefully examined one of these master cylinders that I have once-upon-a-time and became convinced that the third character was a "6" and NOT an "8". Either way, though, there is only one master cylinder casting number and NOT 2 different ones that have a "6" and an "8" for the third character, but both ending with the numbers "346". The master cylinder you need for a 1972 Corvette WITH J-50 has a master cylinder casting number that ends with "346". If you find such a master cylinder you will have the one you need PROVIDING that it also has bleeder valves and the code "PG" stamped into the "half moon-shaped" machined surface on the front.

I've had one in the DriveLine the last couple of issues, but it is a very late one-dated April 28th, 1972. It is the power brake "346", has the bleeders & "PG" in the half moon.
