    Decoding Help

    Hi,
Although this may not be Corvette related, I was wondering what CTB stands for on a small block and POE14C IS FOR A 4spd Muncie. Thanks in advance.

POE14C means Muncie HD 4spd, 1970 model year, month May, day 14, suffix 2:20 close ratio M22

CTB was never used in Corvettes, but had numerous applications in passenger cars, Chevelles, and Monte Carlos as 400's and 350's from '72-'78.

        Bob----

The "CTB" suffix code had several uses. However, if the engine and transmission are "related" in this case, then the "CTB" represents and LT-1 engine installed in a Camaro. This would be a 1970 Camaro Z-28 with M-22 transmission. For a 1970 Corvette with LT-1, the only way that you could get an M-22 was to order the ZR-1 performance package. However, with 1970 Camaros, you could order the M-22 with any Z-28, all of which were LT-1 engines, of course. The Camaro and Corvette LT-1 engines were the same except for the exhaust manifolds.

The "CTB" suffix code was also used for other small block applications including 1974 passenger cars with 400 cid and 2 barrel carb, 1975 Chevelles and Monte Carlos with 400 cid and 4 barrel carb and 1978 Monzas with 305 cid engine. If the engine has a block casting number of 3970010 then that would confirm the 1970 Z-28 application inasmuch as none of the other engines with suffix code "CTB" would have used that block casting.
