Re: You have obviously left bait here

      Mike,

I'm pretty sure I have all of the GM part numbers for the GM kit that you mentioned. It was a complete installation package that included EVERYTHING needed to install a 360 HP FI 327 in a Chevy II, including complete exhaust and suspension etc etc. I know it was a 62 engine assy and thought it was designed for a 62 Chevy II but could have been a 63. Let me know what numbers you need and I'll try to dig them out.

I was surprised that anyone even knew about this GM conversion kit. I don't think many ever made it out the door at GM. I mentioned this package to someone at a cruise-in a few months ago and he said I was dreaming, GM would never have offered such a package.

Thanks for the part numbers offer.

Yes, this conversion package from Chevrolet was real. When I did my own conversion I bought some of the pieces from a dealer and they are still on the car.

There is one of these "dealer" conversions still around here. It is owned by a well known mechanic that used to work for VV Cooke Chevrolet in Louisville. A red/red wagon he used as a tow car for his race car. Supposed to be cherry.

Bill Thomas Race Cars built at least two of these with the Stingray IRS under it. As the story goes, it went to England in an underfunded but somewhat successful road racing season in '63. The car was crashed late in the season and left there.

          Mike,

I found several interesting pages for the 327/Chevy II. Problem is, they're all over 4000kb per page. Do you have DSL or cable? If so, I can send them directly to you. I have your email address.

            I have dial up.

            Mike:

I have no idea what that size file(?) would do on this connection. Send it and we'll see what happens. If it happens to be the 8 page feature out of March '62 HRM, I have that. Also have another HRM artcle on Bill Thomas' "Bad Bascom" that I think you and I conversed about some time back.

            Thanks,
            Mike

              Re: I have dial up.

              Mike,

The first thing I found was, indeed, the 8 page article from Hot Rod magazine so I won't sent it if you already have it. Still looking for all the GM stuff on the subject tho. As soon as I find it, I'll send. Should be a much smaller file that won't plug up your dial-up conn.
