What would be the original tire size for a 1968 Corvette? How about a 1969? Would a G70-15 Firestone Super Sport Wide Oval w/red stripe be correct as an optional tire? Thanks

Re: 1968-1969 tire sizes
Hi Jim,
I'm looking at the 1968 corvette glovebox manual right now and 68 vettes had 15x7 rims, thus the correct tire the book says, is a F70-15 Nylon.
In 1969 the rim size was increased to 15x8, at this point I can't help you because my 69 sales brochure doesn't give me the tire size for that rim.
Maybe someone else can help you out.
Also for your info 68 vettes had opitional codes # PT6 F70-15{2ply{4ply rating} special Red Stripe, and # PT7 F70-15{2ply[4ply rating} special White Stripe.
Also 69's had Red Stripe as well as White Stripe.
good luck.

Re: 1968-1969 tire sizes
Jim-----
As Bill mentioned, the F-70-15 was the only tire size ever used in PRODUCTION for all 1968-72 Corvettes. No other size could be ordered, although there were several orderable sidewall configurations.
While Firestone Super Sports Wide Oval was one of the tire models used for 1968-72 Corvettes, the tires used on Corvettes were bias ply, nylon cord and NONE were of belted construction. Firestone Super Sports Wide Oval tires used on other model cars during this period were of fiberglass belted construction. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
