    I need to set the toe on my 71, in the rear do I have to losen the t-arm bolt are can you just take the shims out with out doing the front nut? they have the sloted shims with the coter pin

    You have to loosen the trailing arm nut in order to remove and replace shims. The shim pack has to be TIGHT. The last shim needs to be driven in with a hammer to ensure tightness. Don't pound on one of the thin shims, though. Once you determine the correct shim pack on each side of the bushing, remove one of the THICK shims, install the necessary additonal shims and pound the thick one back into the pack.
