    C2 capacitor behind ammeter

I am questioning the connection of the radio capacitor behind the ammeter. The connection is made with a brass strap on the capicator lead that bends under one side of the ammeter connector (the black wire side that goes to "B" terminal on solenoid). My concern is the strap comes dangerously close the the bolt that holds the ammeter in. As both sides of the ammeter are "hot" and unfused won't this strap cause a problem if it touches the screw? Won't it ground out the 12 volt side of the ammeter connection?

The factory original part, Delco 7270568, was a wax-foil tubular capacitor with axial lead wires. The lead wires were cloth wrap insulated leaving only small crimp-on ring connectors at each end. There should be no threat of inadvertant grounding due to a 'creepage distance' issue....

        Jack,

I believe you are refering to another capacitor as the Amp meter capacitor is 1960959 on the cap and it's a one lead metal can. The only paper capacitors are on the brake switch and the blinker on C-2's. Both of those are two lead capacitors.

          Dixon,

I have not forgotten about your suggested the ammeter tests, sidetracted on another cluster issue. I did bend the strap into a U and slid it under the V shaped connector on the outside, just like the one I broke when I installed the cluster the first time! There is about an 1/8" between the strap and stud. I'm going to put a small piece of rubber vacuum line over the stud to ease my mind because it looks to me like contact with that stud would cause a meltdown.

RIGHT you are! I mis-read C2 and mapped it into C1 quoting specs for the straight axle cars' headlight capacitor that attaches to the ammeter. Thanks for the shoulder tap!
