65 Chrome Air Cleaner Lid Paragon

Anyone who has purchased a Chrome Air Cleaner lid for a 65 from Paragon. I'm wondering if it has the correct rolled lip and silk screening. The other repos are not even close that I have seen. Anyone had there's judged.
    Thank Mike

Re: 65 Chrome Air Cleaner Lid Paragon

When my car was judged, the judge had a home-made template of the cross-section in the area where the flat top goes down toward the edge. He said all of the repros come from the same tooling, regardless of where purchased and that they are detectable. The deduction was two points. In addition, the quality of the die maintenance when my lid was made was far below GM's standards regarding marks in the part and the finish of the edge. I have a tool & die background and to me it looks horrible. On of the things on my to-do list is to find an original lid and have it rechromed & re-silkscreened.

Re: 65 Chrome Air Cleaner Lid Paragon

      Mike,

I have two (2) used 63/64/65 original air cleaner lids. They will need to be re-chromed and stenciled, but they are original. Please contact me via email if you are interested in an original one...cheap. I can send you digital pictures of them if you would like. My email address is jwest@oppd.com.

        Can you recommend a restorer?

        Scott,

Can you recommend someone to rechrome and re-silkscrreen an air cleaner lid? I knon Paragon will do this, but will their silkscrreen pass muster?

        Thanks,

        Gary

Gary, I haven't gotten far enough into this yet to decide the who and how. It is, after all, only two points. It's just that personally the quality of the stamping rubs me wrong and its the single most visible thing under the hood. I may just get one rechromed to make myself happy and forget the silkscreen.

            Scott,

I have a repro show chrome lid from Paragon for looks, but I'd like to have my original rechromed and re-silkscreen for judging. I know that Paragon will restore my orginal, but I'd just like to know before I send it to them that they are the best choice in terms of the silk screen cosmetics and correctness.
