Re: Headlight motors
The GM shop manual outlines the procedure (available from the NCRS store). Not difficult to remove but be careful when removing the wires. They probably need a new main drive gear and clean / lube job. Don H.- Top

Re: Headlight motors
Don,
I think they all move like you say when not in the full up or down position.
However if the bucket moves in full up or full down position, it's probably a problem with the pivot shaft or wye bracket.
If it's tight in the full up or down position and just slow then it's probably the motor or gear. To pull the motor see your service manual. Put a bolt or screwdriver in the hood brace, and it helps to put a mirror at the bottom of the radiator so that you can see what you are doing.
Your have to relieve pressure on the gear with the handwheel at the end of the motor, pull the the harness lead, then one retaning pin on the motor locating stud, and the one screw on the motor strap where the motor ground is attached.
The motor should then slide inboard and you can pull it from the car. Don't lose the plastic bushing between the motor and pivot shaft.
Once you have the motor off the car, you can bench test it with a battery charger, and some solderless connectors. Take a look at the positions of the harness connectors. Black is ground, and yellow or green is up or down(positive).
If it is slow on the bench test, you can try lubing it, take apart or send it out for refurb. It's really a simple mechanism, as you will find out if you take it apart. But remember you are going to have to put it back together and back on the car in reverse order.
Working through a mirror in the headlight area in the confined space between the open hood is not the easiest thing in the world, so stay out of earshot of the little lady.
