    Allen's Exhaust recommendation

Gentlemen: Want to replace my exhaust system on my 1966 L-36 427/390. I have the under car system and spoke with Jim at Allen's about his product(s).
My mufflers are currently older aftermarket, very quiet Midas type mufflers and I want to hear and feel my 427. Allens offers three mufflers, (1)stock,(2) off-road (two baffle), and (3) a louder no baffle unit.

Does anyone have or heard any of these set-up's??

Secondly, opinions on their Chambered I & II system AND their STAGE I & II systems. I know they will not give the orginal look like the stock mufflers but what about performance, sound, fit, etc.

    Your thoughts..pls/ Cheers/Keith.

I've read the archives and did get some info but some of these ALLEN's systems are very new and recent to their inventory.

    Keith-----

Mike Allen has been in the Corvette muffler and exhaust system business for a LONG time. I would say that they are one of the premier manufacturers of these systems. As far as which system to use, I wouldn't go any more "radical" than their "off-road" system.

      Keith,
I put the Allens undercar chambered system on my 70 LS-5 and found it very noisey. Its sitting in my cellar if you want it cheap. It doesn't bother the driver and passenger as much as side exhaust but the overall noise is just as much. Just to loud in my opinion.

My experience with Allens off road mufflers is with my LT-1 cars and I find it to be just right. They are as close as I've heard to the original "throaty" sound. They most likely will act differently on the Big Block. I had used a CC system previously and found it to be to quiet.

Good Luck w/ your final decision.

Purchased the 3 baffle exhaust pipe at Carlisle in O4. Outstanding, sounds like a GM Off Road system. If throaty pipes are you goal this is and was an outstanding Choice.

            Keith,
I've contacted them about exhaust for my 67 coupe 327/300hp. I'm thinking of going for the 'off road' exhaust. I know he supplies many of the parts warehouses and is supposed to be the closest to original. I personally don't like the 'chambered' exhaust sound as my old roommate has it on his blk/blk 66 conv. and it doesn't sound pleasing, just LOUD! After 'observer' judging the Chassis section last weekend for the SCC/NCRS, I marked lots of point deductions for not 'correctly welded' under exhaust systems. Get the welded ones.
