I don't think SUVs are the problem
I guess that I am no help to the gas problem, as my 71 small block gets about 12-14 mpg. About the same, or less than most SUVs. I drive it most good days to work and its over 40 miles round trip. As to gas going to $5.00 a gallon, well thats fine for you, I am not in such a hurry to see it go there. Most people who buy SUVs, large ones anyway, usually are not hurting for money and the gas prices are a small inconvenance for them. Where as my daughter who is grad studant, paying for her second degree (I paid for the first) and trying to support her self is working at the university, which is a 40 mile drive for her round trip, is seeing a lot of income going in to the gas tank in her 95 old cutlass. I think the problem seems to be lack of new refineries. And why build more if you are the gas business? By not building, keeps demand up and that justifies higher prices. They will claim thats its the price of crude that drives up the price, but look at the companys profit sheet. All are making record profits. Drilling in Alaska, won't help any time soon, as it will take about 10 years for it to show up at the pump. As to the SUVs, yes they use up more gas, yes they are a pain drive behind but they are a small part of the problem.

Our SUV gets 23 MPG, what does yours get?
How many classic Corvettes get that? That is in town. 25 mpg on the highway, which usually means about 75 mph and loaded with weekend/vacation gear and three people.
And be able to tow a Corvette on an open trailer? (not at 23 mpg, though.)Comment
