Another 58 paint question

Hi all. A buddy of mine who is an NCRS member but not computer literate is still working on his 58 restoration has a paint question:

what is the correct color of the steering column (inside the engine compartment to be painted) on the yellow exterior/charcoal interior car?

On a 58 the entire length of the column that is visible in the engine compartment should be gloss black. The interior color was only painted on the column about 1 foot down from the steering wheel, and stops way short ot the firewall.

No! a 53 to 57 would be the color of the lower dash color, even under the hood.

58 as well. The steering column on a 58 matched the interior color all the way to the steering box. The black started in 59, and it may have been changed during 59 production. I know that the 58 was interior color.

Gene is right, I thought the change took place at the end of the 57 model year, but it extended through almost all the 58 model year. Only very late 58 cars had the black column in the engine compartment.
