    Z06 Price and Availability

Hello to all you mid-style owners. I've been pestering my buddy for the last 25 years to sell me his Z06. I know the statistics on numbers and options, but what my question is, is how many are still out there and what kind of prices are they ranging from. After being a solid axle owner for over 30 years, I've never really had much to do with mid-styles. This car is 100% complete, although it hasn't run for 25 years. It does have some race history with pictures of Zora in the car and pointing at the injector and the knock-off wheels it was using at the time. These pictures were from a Jim Canna meet in North Dakota. On looking at the car, it needs a major massage, including paint and a new interior. Any help regarding pricing and just how many are still out there would help me tremendously.

    Re: Z06 Price and Availability

My 'unofficial' take on your post....

    (1) There are more out there than originally built.

    (2) Value of rare items lies in that brief interlude where buyer/seller

meet and strike an economic deal. 'Guidelines' on what this/that

    is worth are virually meaningless.

    (3) There are almost NO cars that are 100% percent 'untouched', so

adjust your terms accordingly and be realistic. Example: if some

factory concours body wanted to get 'tough', they could roll out

a gas chromatigraph, sniff the air in this/that tire, check the

count of DDT (has been an unlawful pesticide for decades) in parts

per million and correlate it to know/suspected ambient in St. Louis

at the time of vehicle manufacture. This is absurd and is NOT done!

I'm simply reinforcing the advice to tone down originality prose to

    realistic levels.

    (4) If a true factory Z06, this is indeed a nosebleed rare car. If in

anywhere near the condition you state, you would be well advised to

consider doing NOTHING to it in terms of restoration (resist that

urge to re-finish the paint!!!!!) and begin to look at preserving

it along the lines of an UNRESTORED Corvette (Bowtie at NCRS --

    Survivor at NCCB/Bloomington).

      Re: Z06 Price and Availability

Everybody's avoided the price issue...I have a friend with an original small tank red/black ZO6. It's about 80% original paint. It's a VERY nice original car. It's not a frame off, nut and bolt detailed restoration. It also has 2 bar KO's. He's been offered 100K for it, and has turned that offer down. He's a quiet, low profile guy, and has 2 other "regular" 63 coupes. I don't know the SN, and don't have access to the details, and will not impose on him to ask. Chuck

          Off-road exhaust?

The ad for the pilot line car claims it has off-road exhaust. It's my understanding that RPO N-11 was never actually installed during '63 production, and when it finally showed up in '64, the rear section of the exhaust pipes didn't have the kickouts, so it couldn't be retrofitted to an early '63 with the seat wells. Am I missing something, or is there something suspicious about the ad? Inquiring minds wanna know!

              Re: Off-road exhaust

Wayne -- my 9/77 parts book shows the same table and data. Also of note is "97.00" written next to the off road numbers in what appears to be my handwriting, but it probably goes back nearly all the 20 plus years I've had the book. About a month a go I asked the Board is a repro off road muffler without the attached rear section exhaust pipes was available, but came up empty.
