    Master cylinder rebuilders?

I finally found a correct master cylinder for my '69. I've had it rebuilt locally (cylinder honed, rebuild kit installed), but it refuses to push any serious pressure to the front circuit. I can't even get the front brakes to bleed properly.

I'm not sure what to do here, but I'm thinking that someone with the right equipment should be able to recondition the master cylinder (boring and resleeving, if necessary) and pressure test it to make sure it is working before I put it back on the car. The problem is I can't find anybody who will rebuild it beyond just putting in a parts-store rebuild kit.

Can anyone point me to a good rebuilder/restorer of master cylinders?

    Thanks,
    Jon

    Jon-----

Master cylinders which are rebuilt by honing and installing a "seal kit" are very often unsatisfactory. I would NEVER use such a master cylinder except in an emergency as a short-term measure. Most auto parts store type "rebuilt" master cylinders are exactly this and nothing more.

There are many good master cylinder rebuilders but 2 that have excellent reputations are White Post Restorations (www.whitepost.com) and Apple Hydraulics (www.applehydraulics.com). I prefer brass for master cylinder sleeving, but either brass or stainless are fine.

White Post rebuilt mine a couple of years ago - looked great, works fine.

              Re: Master cylinder rebuilders?

I used Apple Hydraulics and had great results as they rebuilt my original master cylinder and did not swap it out. I was concerned about the numbers. Also, I wanted mine resleeved with Stainless Steel and White Post wouldn't do that. I had read in several forums that brass is quicker to corrode than stainless and since I don't drive my car that much, the stainless was recommended over the brass. I know nothing on the subject so I listened to those who seemed to know more than I. Turnaround time was 1 week and cost was $97.50for the resleeving and rebuild.
