I read a post a while ago about how many of the 69's and 70's being judged these days had the correct p/n alternators, but, most of these had the wrong date code for the car itself and that this didn't seem to be a big issue given the fact that they are so hard to find. That being said I was wondering if it would be acceptable to install a carb in this fashion? I would like a 7029204 FF carb for a Jan31/69 car. I did find one with this correct p/n and two letter code but the date is 3501. I didn't know that service replacements carried this two letter code untill I came across this one so now I'm wondering if, from a judges perspective, this would be acceptable or get zero points because it is obviously not original seeing as it was made near the end of 71?

Re: Importance of the date code for judging
The carburetor date code deduction is 12 points, the alternator is 6 points. If you have the correct part #, the pieces of the carb are arranged as original, finish is correct, etc the twelve point deduction should be all that you loseDick Whittington- Top

Greg:
Think of your restoration as a process or journey. It's not all going to be there overnight...but overtime with patience. So you get the carb today with the part number and overtime continue your search (as your bankroll builds) until you find that perfect carb with matching date code and part number.Tom Russo
