Re: 64 4 spd feels like its in gear when starting
Darrell,
This is actually quite common, and normal, in cold temperatures. The 90W gear lube in a transmission is so cold that it actually causes the car to want to move when you engage the clutch for the first time. As soon as the lubricant warms up slightly, this condition goes away. It is a little scary tho, especially the first time you experience this.- Top

Re: 64 4 spd feels like its in gear when starting
Hey Darryl I had the same problem with my "new" C2, when it was colder than 50 degrees. Replaced the tranny oil with Mobil 1 synthetic, and so far the problem hasn't resurfaced. (It was also a little balky going into 2nd until it warmed up, now it slips in much sooner) . Les- Top

Mannnnny moons ago we had the same problems with trucks trying to move with the transmission in neutral. We replaced the heavy gear oil with 50W oil and eliminated that problem, plus over doubled the life of the transmission bearings.Dick Whittington- Top
