hello from babyblue and thanks for the help so far. new side pipes did not quiet babyblue down. My question... is there a published set of steps for removing (and replacing) the interior door panels on my 1966 convertible?

You'll find it in the "Corvette Body" (section 1-B) in the Chassis Service Manual, with an illustration. Remove window cranks and lock knob, five screws around the perimeter to the door, two screws below the armrest, two screws for the pull handle, and it'll pop right off.- Top

Removing door lock knob

When John says "Remove .. lock knob", this may not be as easy as you might think. If you try and use the standard clip removal tool you risk damaging the surface of your door panel. I wound up hooking the small hidden clip using a large, bent paper clip. Someone on the NCRS DB suggested this to me and it worked like a charm.

I used a Dentists pick. Has a little curve on the end to hook it with. It worked great just had to figure out which way the clip was in. Put the clips in the next time facing down so you hook it from the top. Mike- Top
