Wheel cylinders

After searching the archives I still could not find the front and back wheel cylinder casting numbers for my 62. I would like to locate the proper cores for my restoration.

527 and 528 front, 649 for both rear. (BUt be careful on the rears--each has two flats--one was machined for the brake line, and left versus right had the different flats machined.

I just went through a search

for cylinders and shoes. Oddly enough, the very inexpensive cylinders from AutoZone have the correct appearance, except for the lack of correct numbers (which cannot be seen with the drums installed). They will even accept the original bleed valves. They don't, however, have bonded shoes. For that you have to go to Chevs of the 40s, or Danchuk. Maybe some of the Corvette vendors do too, but they were not interested in answering my inquiry.

I will keep my 821 and 822's for my collection. Just maybe I'll end up with a big brake car in the future. Dave Federation autoparts have the rivited shoes if your looking for them.

I really wanted to install

bonded shoes, for two reasons:

1) The original GM specification was for bonded shoes.

2) My Dad, who owned this car for many years before I did, hated riveted shoes, and would probably come back to haunt me if I used them.

I can get riveted shoes locally for $12 an axle, but I'm gonna pass because even though they'll cost twice as much, I would know they were not right.
