I would like to know how early in production a 1966 427/425hp would have to be to be considered a 450hp? I could be wrong ( not likely )but I heard that early 425hp cars are actually 450 hp.?? Thanks in advance Don

Re: 1966
Don------
The only difference between 1966 450hp L-72 and 1966 425hp L-72 was the label on the air cleaner; that's it. There was absolutely no difference in the engines, whatsoever. Every single component of the engines was the same.
I don't know if the "425 hp" engine was actually "450 hp" or if the "450 hp" engine was actually "425 hp". Who knows----maybe neither rating was correct?
I don't know when the change of the AIR CLEANER LABELS occurred, but I think that it was fairly early in the model year.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Re: 1966
Don,
You may want to check the archives here for more info on this subject. Everett Ogilvie posted much info on the 425-450 subject that I think you will find very interesting. Everett also wrote an in depth report that was in the Corvette Restorer magazine a while back.- Top
