    Part #'s on Fuel Pumps

Can any one tell me why there are no part #'s on A C Fuel pumps.

Or have I not been able to find the part #.

Re: Part #'s on Fuel Pumps

Depends upon the specific fuel pump, when it was made, and whether or not it's been through a rebuild cycle. Factory original pumps from the 50's and early 60's had the last 4-digits of the PN stamped into one of the four sides of the pump's mounting ear (e.g. 4656). But, if that pump had failed, been replaced, and journeyed through an independent reverse-assy line rebuilders shop, it might have picked up a replacment upper assy that was 'virgin' (unstamped), a non-AC equivalent, Etc. Most of these shops attached a tag beneath one of the body to top mounting screws and shipped it out that way (a Heinz 57 combination of AC and non-AC parts that functioned like the original).

On the later pumps (crimped/sealed; not intended to be disassembled for repair), the AC part number may have been silkscreened on the pump body (easy to lose) or simply identified by information on the box it was packed in. So, there are several variables in the overall equation. But, if the pump is a real McCoy item from the 50-60 era, you can bet it DID leave AC with the PN derivative stamped on the mounting flange...

All the pumps I have personally looked at, which is a lot fewer than Jack, have had the stamp on the upper front flange. When I say front, I mean the edge of the flange on top, closest to the radiator as installed. We're talking 50's/early 60's pumps here, not the press together type. You can usuall see the part number with a flashlight looking down on the pump. Though I certainly wouldn't pretend to be able to read the number, I can see where it is.

The original fuel pump off my 67 L79 has the part number stamped on the flange and this is a "crimped" style fuel pump.

Does that ORIGINAL pump have 2 vent holes?
