    63 Emergency Brake

The 63 Emergency/Parking Brake has a one year only design that was suppose to apply equal tension across two cables, one to each of the rear wheels. Only now matter how much I tinker with, adjust, lubricate, or reposition the cables, my right rear wheel brake is applied prior to the left.

Anyone have any thoughts on how I might be able to get this system to function correctly?

Start with making certain that the rear brakes are adjusted equally in the off position, The way to do this is by doing an old-fashoned hand adjustment to both of the rears to make sure they are adjusted equally. Also check for any fluid leaks or contamination on the shoes. Adjustment procedure for the brake shoes is in the service manual.

      Thanks for your suggestion, Bill.

I have adjusted the brakes several times. Have replaced wheel cylinders, hoses, shoes, springs, and turned the drums. The system seems to work very well and properly with the hand brake completely unloaded. Then as I tighten up the adjustment on the hand brake it will tighten up the right side significantly more than the left. I am baffeled.

OK, you forced me to the assy manual, the only thing I can see would be a drag on the cable on one side or the other, any kink or too sharp bend that would cause a drag would couse that side brake to be loose relative to the other side. The other possibility would be the cable not sliding freely over the "equalizer" section of the cable system???
