Working very hard to restore my 63 Coupe via the NCRS JM and several other books. I am have a hard time now trying to find a correct reproduction of the outside heater box. Described as dark grey with flecks...does anybody know who is making the correct or acceptable reproduction of the box? The heater box I did buy is incorrect, its a black box, with no flecks, and it just doesnot look right. Does anybody have a good photo of the correct box, as 63 and 64 I think are different then other years. Again if anybody can tell me where to purchase a good repro...don't think I can afford to buy a NOS, seems like the prices of anything NOS is busing my budget....THANKS

Re: Outside Heater Boxes for 63's Need Help...
i'm not aware of any repo's that have the surface appearance of an original. suspect you'll have to look around for a good used or repair your original on its unexposed surface if possible. remember, they were essentially unpainted as installed on the assembly line(just some sealant slop around periphery). mike- Top

Re: Outside Heater Boxes for 63's Need Help...
I purchased a repo for my 67 and I was able to "massage" the surface to look very close to original. It took some work and playing around but it worked. I used the internal side as a sampling location until I got my technique down. I had my original to use as a guide.......- Top

Collin
You are probably already aware that there are at least 2 different configurations of the outside heater box for 1963. Early cars had no "reinforcement ridge" just outside the core outlet opening. Story goes they were prone to crack in this area. Sometime during 63 production the later, more commonly found design started showing up. Just another running change for the 63 production.- Top

Re: Outside Heater Boxes for 63's Need Help...
Should the outer box be the same finish as the inner box? My inner box is in excellet shape and is on the black side with strands showing. The repro outer box I got is gray with what looks almost like fake strands in it.
I had a line on a redone 63 box but that is on hold right now (long story).- Top
