    C 1 AntiqueFMRadio arrives

    Hey you guys,
I told you I would keep you posted. I just received the new Wonderbar AM AF Radio from Antique Automobile radio. One of our NCRS brothers posted on the board last week. I hope you all went to their web site. It is pretty neat, it's about 3 inches wide. I will have my mechanic install it when I get back my rebult wiper cable. It will leave alot of room behind it under the dash. I will most likely get the satelite radio that hooks up to it. If anyone can tell me how I subscribe to the satelite co, I would appreciate it. I wanted to see how it worked first, they have a good return policy & are very nice to deal with. I spoke to Peggy. They say you can have a 6 or 12 CD changer hooked up to it as well. I have heard that I can use the satelite in my Subaru & then just plug it into the Vette or use it in my house. I already have the sirrus through my TV dish.I also heard that once you use satelite radio, you will never use your CDs again. Is it that good ? Let me know, I will let you guys know as soon as it's in the car how good it works. But it looks like a winner. Blu is in the shop today having a modulator repair on my Power Glide.
    Cheers,
    Deb

    Debra,

I would like to find out how well you like the radio, also. I just removed a very dusty, dirty 1969 Custom Autosound radio from my 59 and am considering installing a Wonderbar conversion, also. I believe they are $650, a bit pricey, but it will allow the stock look and operation while also giving me the tunes I need while cruising. My son just purchased an iPod and it is pretty cool. It stores mp3 files and has a transmitter to send songs to any radio tuned to a certain frequency. As such, he has downloaded songs off of the internet and burned all of his CD's to the iPod for playing on the go. He has over 600 songs in the device. Pretty neat. Good luck and post pics if you can.

My Wonderbar has a hidden FM receiver inside. My IPod with over 5,200 songs on it works fine with the Monster Cable FM transmitter. However, at 60+ MPH the original speaker just can't drown out the road/engine noise.

Satellite radio, is it that good?,

Debra, the main advantage of satellite radio is that you will always have reception, (rare wether and sun spot conditions aside). No advertisements and shortly it (Sirrus) will be the only place to hear Howard Stern. The music formats leave something to be desired but so does regular radio. The attraction for me is when traveling. I wouldn't pay the monthly subscription fee, but that's just me.

Normally I'm a CD guy but like the IPOD concept too. When I get my '62 done, I think the sounds of the solid lifter small block will keep me entertained for awhile. I'll probably go the IPOD, earplug option. C1's leave little room for speakers and with top down cruising sounds are going to suffer.

I just bought a new truck that came with a trial subscription to XM satellite radio. The concept is great, commercial free (although I swear I heard a commercial on their NPR equivalant this morning), many music styles, and a broad choice of talk radio, comedy, and even TV audio from CNN or MSNBC, if you get bored with the music choices. However, I often lose reception when I go under overpasses or in parking garages. You can get more information on XM at the link below. I have no experience with Sirius satellite radio, but I understand it is very similar.
My only real objection so far is purely psychological. I think it would bug me to get a bill for $10 each month to listen to the radio. If they have a package where I can pay a year at a time, I will probably go with that when the freebie runs out. Yes, I know, that makes no sense, but it would make me feel better.
