I have been searching for a correct master cylinder for my 1978. Gary at Vette Brakes has found a core that he said is the correct style, (not necessarily the a 1978 MC), for my 1978 but it only has a "Y" broadcast code instead of the correct "YC" code. He has been more than helpful digging through old cores for what I was looking for but it does not sound like this is what I am looking for. Does anyone know what a "Y" broadcst code master cylinder is from?

I don't know of a case in which a 1 character broadcast code was used, particularly by the late 70s. Also, these characters were notoriously lightly stamped (although I've forgotten where these characters were stamped for 1978----the semi-circular machined surface on the front of the master cylinder was long-gone by then).
In any event, I suspect that this is either a "YC" master cylinder or another "Y-something" master cylinder, but the second character was either not stamped or too lightly stamped to be visible. In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top
