    AFB Choke

The choke on my AFB (63 SHP) binds somewhere in the coil mechanism(I think) when the engine is cold. I then have to jiggle the butterfly valve to free it, it then sets properly, car starts and runs fine, choke opens all the way when the engine is warm. The carb was recently rebuilt. Any ideas or suggestions?

    Re: AFB Choke

Assuming it's not the choke valve itself binding on the side of the air horn it could be a dirty sticky choke pull off piston.

If the above is the case remove the choke housing, take it apart, and find out what's wrong. The AFB choke is probably the least reliable feature of the AFB, and it should be removed for a good cleaning whenever it misbehaves. Also verify that the choke clean air source is not leaking due to a hole in the tube through the exhaust manifold. This will foul the choke system very quickly.

Be sure to install the choke housing back on the main body with a new O-ring on the choke vacuum break passage.
