C2 GM Restoration Bumpers-Problems re Fitment?

These are from a reputable supplier. My 1967 is in the paint shop. I have read that there will be fitment problems with these "Genuine GM Restoration" parts. What are those and what are the solutions? Bend this and and that on the brackets? I am willing to pay double the labour rate as an "advisor" to get them installed correctly. Thank you!

Be sure to fit them to the car before it's painted.

      Paul,

This subject has been discussed at length with this vendor and they seem to do nothing about it. They state that all bumpers are checked on a fixture that is go-nogo. Since they are the only game in town they have increased their price and lowered their quality control.

The solution to your problem is:

Send the bumpers back and request a refund.

Send the bumpers back and request replacements.

Send the bumpers back and find originals and have them re'chromed.

If we live long enough and are patient long enough, things will change!

      Regards,

      JR

I hate to send them back without justification as the trial fitting has yet to take place. Perhaps I will be lucky when that time comes! In retrospect perhaps I should have had the originals re-done as they show their age (chrome is getting thin) but are very solid. Live and learn....

What? You have the originals? Send back the repops rechrome your originals. Your car and fit deserves it.

Yes I have the originals. Passenger front has minor dent about 3" in from horizontal/vertical curve and of course the thin chrome (not pits) I mentioned earlier. I would imagine that comes with time and the use of chrome polishes. Surface rust on inside surfaces. I may rethink this whole matter.

Re-think then re-use. You make no excuses for an original part.

Even though the cost to plate will probaly equal the cost of new you will be more happy with the fit and finish.

I thank all for the replies - both here and e-mail. I will try the repro bumpers and see what happens. No real harm done except financial if I have to get the originals re-done. I will post on how things turn out. The "Genuine GM Restoration Parts" marketing label seems so alluring. Perhaps I fell for hype, not reality.

                    Paul,

After completely restoring my '67, I decided that "exact reproduction" should always be prefaced with the word "almost". There's always some difference, whether it's fit, finish, shape,....it's always something. Use your original bumpers, you'll be happier. Personally, I would not only return the bumpers you got, I'd tell them they don't fit as promised, and have them arrange to have them picked up at their expense. You shouldn't have to pay for shipping (both ways) for parts that don't fit as promised.
