    Early 1968 Corvettes

Anyone out there with a very low serial # 1968 Corvette?

If so..I would like to know the color of your windshield pillars.

    Joe:

I have a 68, built (according to what I can figure out from the VIN) in Nov. 67, last digits 403929.

Looks to be original to me in the pillar posts, but not sure what you're looking for exactly.

Let me know by sending me a digital shot of what you need, and as soon as I return from travelling this week, I'll get a couple shots for ya.

I own # 00164, 427/400, conv., auto, tele, p/s, p/b, p/w, both tops, built in mid September of '67(I think). Car is Polar white with Gunmetal interior. The pillars are matching Gunmetal. Hope this is what you were asking, G.

        George

Years ago I was told by my fiend at the St.Louis plant that at the start of the 68 model run..he was instructed to paint the windshield pillars to match the interior color.

He complained that he did not have the proper equipment..but soldiered on to hand brush the pillars to match.

When this was too slow..he then acquired some spray cans to speed up the process.

When that still took too long ..he received new direction to paint all pillars black.

I was told this 15 years ago or so and just now thought it was time to check.

If it proves out ..it will be interesting for owners of low serial numbered 68's

I'll look closer and see if i can determine any evidence of brushing/repainting, etc..

as a late production 68 ( July 68) I can say mine are painted black over the green primer.

I had mine off about a year ago vin 01580. I remember the green primer not blue paint.

Another question is, are they the harder molded material or are they covered in a soft vinyl?

My pillar post trim and the header trim had been replaced by the time I puchased the car. It's all repo.
