    Re: knock off wheels

Tony: All the places you mention offer these wheels but I believe only Auto Accessories of America (Corvette America) is the only manufacturer of these wheels, since 1982. I just purchased a set of the Original-style Knock-offs last week ($1,399USD) with hardware (lead hammer, etc) from Dick Barron of Virginia Vettes, go to this url to view.

Dick, was awesome to deal with, best price anywhere around, and he ships direct from AAA , Corvette America to your address. Now, direct bolts are $200 dollars more than original style.

Pls. note Dick advised me yesterday that the KO's are not available from AAA (manufacturer)perhaps until summer and effective April 1, 2005 Corvette America wheels for original KO's are going up from $1779 to $1,999. Virginia vettes price goes from $1,399 to $1,599. Check with Dick for availability and what the price increases are for the Direct-Bolt wheels.

BTW: I called Corvette America and CC before ordering from Dick and they told me they were sold out plus their prices were higher.

    Hope this helps.........cheers/Keith.

      knock off wheels offset

      Tony and Keith

Do either of you know if the offset is the same for direct bolt on vs. OEM style bolt ons? Since the DBO's use an adapter I did not knbow if the offset is the same. Ultimately this would effect what tire size I could use.

        Re: knock off wheels offset

        Randy -

The installed offset is the same between regular KO's that use adapters and the direct-bolt KO's; the wheels are different castings; both have +0.44" offset.

          Re: knock off wheels offset

When measuring KO wheel offset, you have to attach the adapter to have a value comparable to any direct bolt on wheel since the mounting plane to the hub is the inside of the adapter, not the inside of the wheel.

My measurements indicate that KO offset, including the adapter, is +0.06", which is the same offset as the '67 Rally wheels, and I believe this is also the offset of the '67 "bolt-on" aluminum wheels.

The '63 to '66 steel wheels are all +0.44".

The '68 7" Corvette Rally wheels are -0.28" and the 8" Corvette Rally wheels are -0.50". Rally wheels for some other Chevrolet models have different offsets.

            Re: knock off wheels offset

            Duke -

Alan Colvin's wheel charts (from the drawings) indicate that all Corvette steel 5.5" wheels from '63-'66 and the '65-'66 6" KO wheels have +.44" offset, with both steel and bolt-on aluminum 6" wheels for '67 at +.060".

              Re: knock off wheels offset

His measurements don't include the adapter, which has to be included to obtain a valid number to compare with any wheel that installs without an adapter or spacer. If you install the adapter on a KO wheel and measure the offset of the assembly, it's about +0.06". Look at two '65-'66 models side by side from the front or rear and you can clearly see the greater track if one has KOs and the other has OE steel wheels.

To further confuse the issue, disk brake models have slightly wider track than drum brake models even if they are equipped with wheels of the same offset because the hub mounting plane is farther outboard from the vehicle centerline with disk brakes than drum brakes.
