    1966 427/425 Intake Bolts

I'm trying to decide what the "correct" finish is suppose to be on my 427 aluminum intake manifold bolts. According to the judging manual it says they are suppose to be black phosphate. However,in the few cars that I have seen none are black, and all the parts places, Paragon, LI etc, all sell the Cad/Zinc silver ones. Any original ones out there that can check theirs, or if anyone else can help I would sure appreciate it. Thanks for the help.

    Bob-----

The black phosphate bolts were normally used for engines with cast iron manifolds. The zinc plated bolts were normally used for engines with aluminum manifolds. Now, it's possible that once-in-awhile the phosphate-finished bolts may have ended up being used on aluminum manifolds. However, I don't think that it was "typical of factory production".

      Thanks Joe,

That was my understanding too. I was very surprized to see them called out as Black Phosphate in the judging manual. Also, since the manual is up to Rev 4, I would have hoped that "they" would have either corrected that statement or at least would have added the option of having the Zinc version too. Oh well, thanks for the reply.
