    Founders Award Requirements

My wife wants to go for a Founders Award at the National in Bowling Green.

    #1. What are the requirements?

#2. Most importantly, what is the time frame in which these requirements have to be completed?

We drove on the Road Tour to the Collinsville National in 1998. Had 2 Chapter Judging events, one in 97 (Second Flight) at Mike McCagh's Mid Atlantic Labor Day meet, one in 99 (Top Flight) at Mason Dixon Glen Burnie meet. We wrote an article for the Restorer. What else?

    Any help appreciated. Thanks, Chuck

    Re: Founders Award Requirements

Chuck, The requirements for Founders Award are as follows:

Within the award year or three preceding calendar years, a member with the car under identical ownership must: 1. BE A MEMBER OF ANY NCRS CHAPTER. Membership must be carried throughout prerequisite accumulation.

    2. ACHIEVE ANY NCRS FLIGHT AWARD AT A CHAPTER JUDGING EVENT, DRIVEN BOTH WAYS Must be achieved at a chapter event, not a Regional or National. Fulfilling this prerequisite must precede attempting #3.

    3. ACHIEVE A 96% SCORE ON AN OPERATIONS CHECK AT A REGIONAL EVENT, DRIVEN BOTH WAYS. The NCRS Operations Check, which offers no allowance for repair or adjustments, will be conducted by the appropriate National Team Leader of National PV Judge at a Regional event (not a Chapter or National) separately from Flight Judging. Bonus points for a fire extinguisher, battery cut-off switch and NCRS decal, as described in Section 2, #25 will apply, if present (also applies to #7). The appropriate NCRS Operations score sheet(s) will be used to conduct the check, however, unlike the standard NCRS Operations check, the Founders Operations check will be done on a “functional basis” as opposed to being both correct and functional. For example, as long as the item functions fully and properly; a cassette radio may replace a Wonderbar radio, a quartz clock conversion may replace an original mechanical movement, an electric choke may replace a manifold heated style, etc., without deduction.

    4. ACHIEVE A LEVEL 1 OR HIGHER RATING IN THE NCRS JUDGING OR TABULATION RECOGNITION PROGRAM

    5. SUBMIT AND GAIN APPROVAL FOR PUBLICATION, AT LEAST ONE ARTICLE IN THE CORVETTE RESTORER MAGAZINE The article does not have to have been published to apply. The applicant needs only a note of acceptance for future publication issued by the Editor. Preference will be given to articles which are of a technical or how-to nature.

    6. PARTICIPATE IN THE NCRS NATIONAL CORVETTE ROAD TOUR. Participation is defined as registering, joining and driving with the Tour, a minimum of the final 500 miles on any (National) NCRS planned and recognized route.

    7. DISPLAY & RECHECK CAR AT THE NATIONAL CONVENTION. Displayed under the same rules which apply to other cars entered at the convention, the appropriate National Team Leader will check the car to verify it appears to display NCRS Flight Award prerequisite qualities. If so verified, the Team Leader or a Team will then conduct an Operations Check as described in #3 above and car must again score 96% to qualify for the award.

The NCRS Founders Award will be similar in stature to the Duntov, McLellan, Bowtie and Folz plaques. Add on plates at the bottom of the award will be provided if the owner, driving both ways, successfully repeats items #6 and #7 above. Though not required, a repeat of #5 will result in an additional operational scoring bonus of 10 points. The award will again be presented at the Convention. Application for this award will be published in The NCRS Driveilne along with the National Convention Registration and is available for all model year cars currently judged by NCRS.

No Divisional limit on the number of cars entered for items numbered 3 and 7, and the car MAY be entered for Bowtie, Folz or Duntov/McLellan NCRS final judging at the National Convention.

The same car, driven by the owner or a family member, must be used when attempting items numbered 2, 3, 6, and 7.

When logistically possible, and not in conflict with their car’s judging schedule, these cars may be temporarily removed and returned to the show field, when necessary, for local transportation during the prerequisite Chapter, Regional and National events.
