    C2 Carpet Underlayment/Heat Barrier

I'm installing the Al Knoch heat barrier that I purchased for my 66 roadster. The barrier is jute covered with a roofing paper like rubber or vinyl top layer. I was told that this pretty much replicates the original underlayment. Included in the kit is a small piece that fits on top of the transmission tunnel from the firewall to under the radio and radio console. I didn't notice any underlayment here when I stripped the old carpeting. Installing this under the radio would make the radio even more difficult to remove and I'm inclined not to install it or cut it back to in front of the radio. I could see where a heat barrier here could be beneficial. Comments are appreciated.

Dave, I just purchased from Corvetee Central, part # 132007, which is console insulation "underdash/center console". I didn't have any in mine when I got it. I've yet to recieve part so I couldn't tell you how thick, etc.

The underlayment on the tunnel ahead of the radio should be there and its the same material that is under the carpeting. Refer to your AIM for details etc.
It was not glued in place but rather just laying there for 30+ years.....

Since it might interfere with radio removal, I'll probably lay it in and not cement it down. If I need to pull the radio, than I can pull the insulation out. You won't see it on the trans tunnel once the radio panels and shift console plate are on.
