    67 Gas lid latch

Ok this is my question of the day, I bet you guys are getting tired of this.
So the screw in my gas cap latch is threaded. It was judged as a replacement, the story went that they were not threaded but early in service they failed and were replaced with the style in my picture. It doesn't look like this has ever been apart, the latch is yellowed and the rest of the lid is factory original, including the paint! In none of the paper work I have from the car does it mention this service being done, and my dad didn't do it. So what do I have. By the way the car next to mine also had this type of latch. Thanks again for all the info you guys have provided.

    Kevin

Kevin, I looked at mine which has never been molested and it too has a screw in that location.... just like yours. Next time you encounter that judge tell him to read page 58 in the 67 Information and Judging manual. It states there is a pan head screw in this location......

      Steve,

Thanks great to find out it's original. This was my first event and I just sat back and let the judges do there thing and don't argue. First of all I don't know enough to disagree with there observations just took them as they fell. All of this new information will help though with my next meet in Berkley. Like I said before I barley made it and was worried about the Regional being tougher but with these few issues clarified and 317mi to the event, I think I'll do just fine.

Kevin, As a prep for your next meet...if you are worried about points....get a buddy to assist you as you go thru the Judging manual item by item. Make an honest opinion of each item as to whether or not it meets the criteria. You'll probably error on the conservative side. Then you can correct these items...or at least know they exist...Obviously the judging manual does not cover every minute thing but its a great start. You can also obtain a set of judging sheets from NCRS (ROY SINOR) to see how many points are involved. This aids in determining if an expense is worth the points obtained thru correction.

        Have fun!

I just looked at both of mine on my 67 coupe:
The original looks exactly like yours. My repop looks similar but the screw has a shoulder on it (not threaded all the way to the head)

I would be happy to snap a couple pics and e-mail them to you if you want.

This is all good news that makes at least 4 67's with that style screw. Not to cloud things up a friend sent me this picture. He was going to send it to my friend that also got a deduct for his threaded screw. This is what the judge wanted to see. Untill we here from someone that has this style on an original car, I'm sticking with the completly threaded one as correct or at least aceptable. Could have been two supliers.

I agree, I also have threaded screw, I would email the judge and let himread the thread.

Mine is fully threaded and I believe original to the car. 1st week Jan Built. While I have received no point deduct for this item 4 times out, it has been called a Replacement. I have no problem beliving both types we used in production.

Kevin, the one from my 67 coupe is an exact match for yours. If the judge can't back up his decision with the judging manual, I would ask him to consult the team leader. The benefit of any doubt should be resolved in the owner's favor.

                    Hi Kevin:

Well, this one is new to me. I have three unrestored 67 fuel doors in a box in my garage. After reading your post I just had to go look. All three of them have threads all the way to the screw head, just like the one in your photo.

                          Kevin,

My 67 Convertible #22049 has the screw like yours, threaded all the way.
I know it's original as I've had the car for 37 years and have never screwed with the gas filler lid. I also have one from another 67 with the same screw.

By the way, hope to see you at Golden Gate. Coming down Friday morning from Sonora, a 3 hour drive, 2 1/2 in my 67.
