    rasiator

well I just got some of the new G-05 antifreeze found it at Auto-zone was 9.47. so I hurry home to put it in my LS-5. well now the fun starts when I drain the radiator, the whole drain plug comes out of the tank! well now I am looking at pulling the whole radiator out, to have it repaired. I dont know if you guys have ever pulled a radiator out of a BB are not I guess a small block would be the same. it is not fun are at least not for me. I have takeing a lot of rads out of all kinds of cars even toyotos, but those C3 have got to be the hardest one to pull. I may just take it to a shop this time an pay good money I hate doing this job so bad.

Assuming your car has a brass radiator and assuming you don't know its history, have the radiator shop rod out the core. They will also pressure test it to make sure the tubes are sound.

Put it back in and change your antifreeze every two or three years, and you probably won't ever have to pull the radiator again.

Yeah I am going to do that Duke, they want like 45 to rod out an put the elbow back in. My radiator is not that old may ten years? I bought a new one from GM. I dont know why but the last time I pulled it out are I should say the old one an put this one in, I thought that I had to move the support around I rember those bolts on the side of the support real hard to line up. but I just come in from the grage an I dont see why I cant pull it out after I take off the hold down plates that are on top the ones with the rubber cushion in them. I think I could get it out with out removing the hood? anyone who has a done a radiator removal let me know some tricks thanks

I could be wrong but I think the condenor is in the way on my car is why I had to move the core support? the bolts that go through the top holding the plate on has a bolt that will touch one of the lines on the condensor, so you move the core forward to get bolt out an to do that you have to move the side bolts on the core? just now looking I dont think that one bolt will come out with out hiting a line on that condensor

I am wrong! I dont know why I was moving the core support the last time, but it should come out by taking the fan off then the shroud then up an out. but the book says the hood must come off? I think I will try frist with out taking the hood off then if I don have the room the hood will come off.

who has the best repo hose for the LS-5 with AC. thanks

You will save a considerable amount of time by removing the hood and then removing the bolts and tilting the core support forward. Alternately some recomment removing the rh upper control arm inner shaft. Either method, the hood is in the way

              Re: radiator

I have done the alternate method mentioned by Dick. Have done it more than a couple times during the almost 35 years of ownership of my 70. I don't like removing the hood and some of my core support bolts are covered and not accessable. Assuming you have a floor jack, lift under the passenger side lower control arm enough to remove the right front tire. What you have done also is remove all pressure from the upper control arm. Have some tape ready to wrap your alignment shims and mark them after you remove the two nuts that retain the upper control arm. This is a easy way as far as I am concerned, hood removal is not required, so reinstallation requiring help and alignment of the hood is not needed. The upper control arm is free moving after the two nuts are removed. What I do using a punch is remove the rear bolt, it has to be knocked out becasue is has a serrated edge retaining it in the frame. The upper control arm is pulled back and allows all the room you need to remove the fan shroud easily. With the shroud out of the car the radiator is very easy to remove. You may want a helper to help lift it out. If your sealing foam is old and dried out you can contact Dr. Rebuild and buy replacements.
I also remove the forward serrated bolt after I remove the shroud to make it real easy for me to install the control arm when the radiator shroud is reinstalled.
