    C2 body mounts

I have a 67 roadster. Why don't all body mount positions have rubber cushions? I thought cushions were used to reduce the transmission of noise and vibration from the frame to the body. I don't understand why the front two positions do not have cushions. Other vehicles I have restored have rubber cushions at all mounting points. Is a question like this a sign that I should take a break from my restoration?

    Randy-----

On 1964-67 Corvette coupes all of the body mounts DO have rubber cushions. However, 1964-67 convertibles have an extra pair of body mounts located on the frame side rails. It's these body mount that don't use cushions.

What the engineering rationale was for the lack of cushions at this position could only be speculated about at this point. However, there's no need to be concerned about it. Just replace the body mounts as the original specifications call for and things should be fine.

The so called first position at the cowl has a large thick metal washer and not a rubber cushion. The next location that is added for the convertible only has shims.

The coupe used a conventional rubber cushion mount at the #1 position, but the convertible used a steel spacer there instead (and the convertible-only #2 mount just used a solid stack of shims) in an attempt to provide more bending stiffness for the convertible body; the coupe body had the roof and upper birdcage structure to stiffen it in bending and maintain the door openings, so it could be isolation-mounted.
